The Bad Months of May & June 2020 + Other Thoughts

Down and Down We Go, but, Count Your Blessings

“When you are worried and you can’t sleep, just count your blessings instead of sheep, and, you will fall asleep counting your blessings” - from 1954 film White Christmas. Words to live by.

I’m back again. Hi kids. Well it’s Wednesday morning, and, Kay has been up at the Rose now for over a month. As for me, I have been spending time at both Yosemite Rose and here at the Columbia house. By the way, I just noticed I have not written you in 5 weeks. I have to apologize. My excuse - I’ve been up at the Rose with Kay doing maintenance.

You know, I can barely tolerate living here in California with most businesses shut down. While reading this, note my thoughts on freedom and liberty, as well as, my comments on the Rosary. Regardless, the truth is May and June were financial disasters for us. I’ll get into that later in the letter. First let’s start with yesterday.

What happened yesterday? Well last week a family booked the Yosemite Rose cottage for a week, and, 2 couples booked bedrooms in the bed breakfast part of the facility. My granddaughter Beaumont cleaned the rooms and provided the breakfast for 3 days. She is only 16 years old, but you would never guess it. The guests always think she is over 18. Kay could not handle the B&B without Beaumont. She is very mature for her age. Beaumont and Kay managed to get the B&B cleaned which includes the Cottage. I was there doing outside maintenance that was also a mess. By the way, Isabelle was with her folks on a job site in Bishop California.

The day before yesterday I had gone back to Columbia and brought great grandma Betty up to the Rose. She always gets the down stairs bedroom (the Edward Room). Well last night her bedroom and mine (the Scelestia room) got booked in for 3 nights. So Betty and I had to come back here to our little Columbia house where I am writing his letter right now. So we will be here for a few days and then go back up to the Rose. I told Kay to just book off the Edward room permanently for Betty. I can move from room to room, but, Betty needs the down stairs Edward room. Did you know that Kay’s mom Betty (my mother-in-law) will be 100 years old next week.

Last week we started getting some bookings, thank God. For the last 5 months there was nothing, nada, no bookings. The facility was previous booked solid for the whole summer. Then this fake virus issue immerged. Yes, I said fake! There is the virus, but, there was no need to shut down the economy, nor, close the schools. We had $90,000 on the books at the time to carry us through the summer months. Kay was ecstatic, thinking the Rose was finally going to turn a profit of $10,000 - $15,000. Well along comes this virus, from that hell hole China, and, everyone that had booked in for the summer, cancels. What a devastating hit that was to Kay (and me) NO booking – all canceled out. Terrible.

Then, to make matters worse, the moron governor closes down the state and closes down all the businesses. What happens next was predictable. That is to anyone who has common sense. The state collapsed into a financial depression, similar to the “Great Depression” that happened in this country between 1930 and 1939. Know your history.

All businesses were closed, leading to no jobs for the working people, leading to no tax revenue into the state treasury. The state already bankrupt went deeper into bankruptcy. All ordered by the idiot governor of the state. Hospitals were essentially forced to close which also led to loss of hospital revenue. With emergency rooms closed, all elective lifesaving procedures stopped. You couldn’t even see your own doctor. Everything was closed. If you needed cancer surgery to save your life – tough- that’s considered elective.

The state determined what was elective and not elective, what was essential and not essential, what was to stay open or closed. If you didn’t comply your license to operate would be taken away. In other words, here in California we came under a dictatorial, and, I might also add, an unconstitutional authority. The governor became a tyrant. He essentially suspended our first 10 amendments to the United States Constitution known as the “Bill of Rights”. By the way our (OUR) “Bill of Rights” cannot be suspended by any state governor. Not even the president of the United States can suspend our “Bill of Rights”.

What really ticked me off is that the average U.S. citizen complied and submitted to unconstitutional authority. The public school system has turned out a generation of people who cannot critically think for themselves, and, have been taught to line up in a queue, wait, keep your mouths shut and do not question authority. Nor were they taught logic – the ability to determine a lie from a truth.

Know your “Bill of Rights” and never surrender them to any dictator that comes along whether that dictator is an elected official or not. Freedom and liberty are precious things. Many patriots have died from 1776 to the present day to protect our freedom and liberties. That’s why I am upset when I see people blindly complying with unconstitutional state orders to shut down your life, and, close businesses, wear masks (that do nothing anyway) stay home, and, worship the governor and any other government official that demands wordship. I only worship GOD – period, end of story. Repeat, I only worship GOD.

And that’s another thing. Were in the hell does the governor get the right to close down church services and outlaw singing and chanting in a church? The 1st “Bill of Right” (1st amendment to the Constitution) guarantees all citizens freedom to practice their religion (in and out of church), and, that includes singing and chanting to GOD whenever you damn well feel like worshipping. As you can read – I am mad as hell to use the vernacular.

And here’s another thing. Wearing these paper cloth masks do nothing. When the state, with untruthful reasoning, orders you to wear a mask and you comply, you have submitted to their unreasonable, and therefore, unconstitutional authority. Wearing a mask then signals the state tyrants, who want to control us, that you have submitted to their unconstitutional authority. In this case, wearing a mask becomes a sign of submission. On the other hand, once the case for having to wear a mask has been presented to the citizens, then let the citizens each decide – don’t order it.

Remember – We are a free republic of citizens not a dictatorship by tyrants.

Did you know a typical virus is less than 2 microns in diameter (1.5 to 2 microns) where 1 micron is 4/100,000 of an inch. That’s 4 hundred thousandths of an inch in diameter. Wearing a cloth mask does not prevent you from breathing in or out a virus. The cloth masks are woven with threads that are 20 to 30 microns apart. In other words, the pores or holes in cloth and paper masks are larger than the size of a virus. The virus slips through. At the minimum you need to wear a face mask with canisters built into it - similar to what painters use when spray painting a house.

By the way, as I recall the current Corona virus is less than a half (1/2) micron in diameter (or 2/100,000 of an inch). So your mask must be able to filter out particles that are less than ½ micron. Wow. Watch pictures, videos, of doctors handling viruses. These doctors are suited up in space like suits with helmets and carry their oxygen supply strapped to their back. They are not using cloth or paper masks. So why are we wearing flimsy little masks with rubber bands around our ears that don’t protect you from a virus. Makes you wonder.

Again most people have been educated in the public schools and know very little science. I can get deeper into the mask issue, but, I’ll stop it here. So you can wear a mask like the other people are doing and submit – not me. The media (TV news) drives the state shutdown with lies, continuingly blurring the viewer mind with lies and doubts. Avoid the lying TV news networks. Better yet turn your damn TV off – even the advertisements lie.

Hey kids, I’m on a roll. Sorry I got sidetracked and angry. OK, were was I? Oh yea, I was talking about why I was up at the Rose. Woops. Have to go. Betty is in the kitchen fixing herself a ham sandwich for lunch. I’ll be back…..

Ok, I’m back. Betty fixed herself a ham sandwich, and, I fixed myself a small pot of vegetable broth, throwing a couple of handfuls of frozen ravioli into the pot. Makes a nice and quick meal. Now let’s get back to the letter.

Ah oh, another interruption……. One of Betty’s visiting nurses just came by to check on her. She has her stethoscope out and is checking Betty’s vitals.

Well I’m back again to continue this letter. You know I’m 80 years old right now and Betty 100 years old next week. Someday, and, the day is getting close in time to me, I will probably also have a visiting nurse. Hope not. Anyway back to the letter.

So 6 weeks ago I and Betty were here in Columbia. Kay had gone up to the Rose to stay with our 2 granddaughters. Their parents had to go to Bishop California on the other side of the Sierra Mountain range (other side of Yosemite National Park). Bishop is famous for all of their mountain fishing in streams and lakes. The Fed (U.S. forestry) is building roads into the area. So Gary and Sally (Beaumont and Isabelle’s parents) got a large contract surveying job to survey the new mountain roads. They have been gone now for 2 months. Note here: the kids have been out of school. The state shut down even closed the schools. The governor is a moron.

Well I had driven over to the Rose a few times just for the day. The building and landscape maintenance at the Rose was overwhelming. I needed help. So 6 weeks ago I was here with Betty saying the Rosary alone in my bedroom when wow a name popped into my head – Elijah. A man that had previously did work for me here in Columbia. I called him, and, get this, he was up in Mendocino county out of work. The state shutting down all businesses had destroyed his business – all his jobs had cancelled out.

So I called him on the phone and said, “I need your help for at least 3 weeks. I have a facility near Yosemite National Park, and, all the guests cancelled out; however, the place needs a lot of work from sheet rocking, carpentry, broken windows to replacing water tanks with tankless water systems. I can only guarantee 3 weeks of work and a place to stay.” Well he agreed to help and drove from Mendocino up to the Rose (a 6-7 hour drive). He lived in the Yosemite Rose Cottage for 4 weeks while busy repairing the facility.

While there, two 40 gallon hot water tanks gave up the ghost (quit), as well as, the cottage propane kitchen stove. He replaced the hot water tanks with tankless propane hot water heaters. He and I also replaced the cottage propane kitchen stove and stove overhead fan hood. I’ll try to send you kids some pictures.

Oh. We also had an oak tree crash down breaking a couple of front windows and pulling down a stretch of roof drain gutter. Haven’t fixed that yet, however, I’m hoping to pull the 2 windows later this week, and, take them to a window company here near Columbia. Anyway Elijah has been literally a God send.

Hey kids, when you need help, pray the Rosary. By the way, Beaumont and Isabelle both have Rosaries. I called Albert, my brother, asking him to find each of my two granddaughters a Rosary. My brother being a chaplain at Stanford hospital blessed the Rosaries, and also, he and his wife prayed the Rosary with those new beads before sending them to the girls. The Rosary beads were very similar to my mom’s Rosary that I now use. There’s a story behind that, and, I will someday tell all of you. Well I’ll tell you now. What the heck.

Mom’s Rosary saved my life, and, I mean literally saved my life. I was bleeding out and dying in the hospital. Kay brought me mom’s Rosary. I had not said the Rosary in 70 years. Well I started saying the Rosary that night. Doctors told Kay that I wasn’t going to make it.

The following morning an old priest came in. A nurse had stopped him in the hall,” Father there is a Catholic bleeding out in that room, he needs help.” Kay was with me when he walked into the room. He anointed my forehead with oil, then placed his hands on my head. He prayed,” Dear God please stop Don’s bleeding”. The old priest, Father John, who has been a priest for 53 years, then left. I kid you not, within 20 minutes my bleeding had stopped. The floor doctor later told me,” I’ve been a doctor for 30 years and I have seen a lot of unexplained healing. This would be classified as a miracle.” That’s why I now pray the Rosary every night. In the last 5 years I should have died 4 times, and, each time I survived. Why? Why? I don’t know , and, I can’t figure it out.

Again back to the Rose. So for the past 4 weeks I have been living up at Yosemite Rose with Kay. I have been doing landscape maintenance while Elijah was doing the building and plumbing repairs. Betty was staying here by herself. We had friends stopping by every day checking on her. Well Betty finally decided to come live with us at the Bed and Breakfast (Yosemite Rose). So I came down and got her.

In the meantime, people started to book into the Rose again. The first week was fine. Several rooms were booked including the Cottage. Finally Betty’s room got booked, and, at the same time, my room also got booked. Guess what? The Rose needed the money. Betty and I were kicked out, and, we came back down here to Columbia where I am now writing this letter. “Kicked out” is a harsh phrase. I should have written – we just decided to leave for a few days.

Oh, also forgot to mention our 2004 Accura (car) broke down earlier this month. Get this, the bottom of one of the spark plugs broke loose and fell into it’s engine block cyclinder. Blew the engine. Kay and I went to Modesto, and, finally bought a used 2017 Accura with 32,000 miles on it. For now, our old Accura is parked at the Rose.

Tonight while walking over to our local Mexican restaurant I called Kay on my flip phone. She told me there was a couple coming in from Australia for 3 nights. If they show up that’ll be about 800 bucks, and, pay for the new stove we had to put into the cottage. Woops, Kay just called, the guest never showed up.

To summarize, May and June have both been financial disastrous months for us at Yosemite Rose.

Anyway until next letter. I will always keep in touch with you. God bless and protect you.

Your grandpa,
Don.
